Manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions.
The individual selected for this position will assist the Principal Investigator by managing day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. The successful applicant will manage a complex animal colony including, but not limited to, general animal husbandry, genotyping, and managing experimental set up and completion. Experience performing these tasks is preferred; however, training in the appropriate handling of mice in accordance with the regulations set forth by the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources will be available. The lab manager will also be responsible for training incoming lab members in the proper care and use of laboratory animals per the approved IACUC protocol. Attention to complex details is essential to the smooth operation of the animal colony. Additional duties will include the interviewing, assessing, and management of laboratory staff yet to be recruited, interfacing with regulatory institutions and committees, and ensuring that the lab is in compliance with protocols and guidelines as necessary. Keep accurate and timely data logbooks. Prepare budget requests and manage approved budget. The selected candidate will also assist with conducting experiments, laboratory set up and routine maintenance, equipment testing and inspection, data management, report preparation, animal procurement, and ordering of laboratory supplies. Applicant will be expected to gain a working knowledge of the laboratory and be able to operate all laboratory systems to train incoming students, postdoctoral trainees, and laboratory technicians in the use and care of equipment. Experience in a laboratory environment is preferred; however, experience in operational management outside of a laboratory will be considered.
